Probates & Estates

When a loved one dies we know that family and friends experience great stress on top of their emotional loss. It is a difficult time for the bereaved but Barrow & Cook’s specialist probate lawyers, and their dedicated staff, are here to relieve some of that burden.

When a person dies leaving assets whether property, money, possessions or investments, it is necessary for someone to deal with the estate.

The Grant of Representation (Probate or Letters of Administration)

  1. Probate is the name given to the process of proving the Will of the deceased person. This allows the Executors to administer the estate which can be a complicated and time consuming experience. We are Executors in many estates and assist many more Executors through the process.
  2. If someone dies without a Will, they are said to have died intestate. The procedure in these circumstances involved the Grant of Letters of Administration . When there is no Will, there are strict rules to follow as to who can apply to the Probate Office and how the estate should be distributed. It is imperative that the Administrators get this right.

We can help with the completion of Inheritance Tax (IHT) forms and fully advise in the manner in which the estate should be distributed.

Whether the Executors or the Administrators require help in the obtaining of the Grant (Probate of letters of administration) our efficient yet approachable staff can assist and reduce the pressure at this stressful time.
